Fiona Roger wins at Cathcart Castle

Fiona Roger won the 13 and upward handicap division of the Renfrewshire Ladies County Autumn Meeting at Cathcart Castle yesterday

Saturday, August 30, 2008

Cathkin Braes 5 Ranfurly Castle 4

Our last Greenlees match of the season was played yesterday at Cathkin in warm muggy conditions. Cathkin fielded a strong team but Ranfurly put up a good fight away from home and the very front and back of the team produced the points.
We remain in second place but await the results from other matches to confirm our final position.
An excellent buffet was enjoyed by the team after the match and friendly rivalry on the course developed into a good chat round the table.
MANY THANKS to all team players and reserves for their support throughout the season.

Anne Judge is the 2008 Ladies Club Champion

Anne Juadge and Anne Robinson - Click to enlarge
Congratulations go to Anne Judge who won her 2nd Club Championship title by beating Anne Robinson 3 and 2 in today's final.
In extremely tricky conditions -- swirling wind and difficult pin placements -- the 2 Anne's had a close and entertaining final.
Anne R sank her putt from just off the green at the 1st for a par to go one up.
The outward half was very close with par golf being the better ball - At the 9th -- All Square.
Anne J
won the 10th with a par and thereafter all the holes were halved until Anne J had a par 3 at the 14th to go 2 up. The 15th was halved and then Anne J lipped out for a birdie 3 at the 16th but was able to sink her putt to win the match 3 and 2

Greenlees Result -- Home win against Kilmarnock Barassie

The Greenlees team played against Kilmarnock Barassie today in their 2nd last game of the season and had a very good 7 - 2 victory. Ranfurly Castle at this point are 2nd in the league to Troon who have definately won the 1st Division. However, with our last match next week aginst Cathkin Braes (Away) we will be trying our best to get the runners up slot.

Thanks to Helen for organising it and to all the helpers.

Halden Cup - The Gents are the winners

On Sunday in mixed conditions the ladies lost to a powerful Gents team 4/8. Although there was heavy rain at the start it cleared up and we had no excuse except there was no run on the course and the men were always on the greens ahead of us !!!
We should have insisted they play off WHITE TEES.
The match was followed by lunch, speeches and some amusing anecdotes from the floor.

Greenlees Result against Cochrane Castle

COCHRANE CASTLE 5 RANFURLY CASTLE 4
Another close away match and fortunately that tail keeps wagging.
Cochrane Castle fielded current county team members (who helped RLCGA reach the finals at Inchmarlo in September) and this made tough matches for the girls out first but they competed well. The girls towards the back of the team earned our points and managed to get in before the downpour.

Alternatives for the siting of a New Clubhouse

As is in the Newsletter Section posted on the main website --- the proposal is to consider possible alternatives for the siting of a New Clubhouse and the possible alternatives to course layout should the existing Clubhouse, 1st and 18th be redeveloped for housing. The objective was not to arrive at a fixed proposal but to demonstrate that potential exists to create a course of the same or better standard than our existing course. We also are aware of some failures in the location of the existing Clubhouse and some of the failings within the course and its layout. The final proposals will require to be made in conjunction with the selected developer and a professional Golf Course architect.
To achieve this we have identified three areas of ground owned by the club outside the existing course boundaries. The areas identified are the existing Clevans Course plus two areas currently tenanted north of the 6th and 7th holes and andarea west of 8th Green and behind 9th tee as shown on Figure 1 below. We appreciate that the tenancy agreement requires to be resolved and have presented some solutions which do not require occupation of this ground.

Captain Mary and Sheila Gray win the Renfrewshire County Winter Foursomes

Sheila Gray amd Mary Hardie - Click to enlarge
Congratulations go to Captain Mary Hardie and Sheila Gray who won the Renfrewshire County Winter Foursomes Final today in excellent weather conditions at Whitecraigs Golf Course.
Despite the recent heavy rain the course was in remarkable condition.
Last years winners, Roisin Black and June Lockhart of Gleddoch, tried hard to defend the trophy but the The Ranfurly Castle pairing took advantage of their 8 strokes to be two up at the turn.
Roisin and June fought back to be all square after the 17th hole. Going down the 18th Sheila and Mary played steadily to clinch the game.

Mary and Sheila reminded the Gleddoch ladies that they had met in the first round of the Winter Foursomes last year when Roisin and June had beaten them on the 17th green.
They look forward to doing battle once again in the final of the 2008/9 Winter Foursomes Final!
Congratulations to Sheila and Mary. -- Well done and many congratulations from all at Ranfurly Castle

Various resolutions proposed by the Board of directors were duly proposed and approved by the ladies present representing affiliated clubs, counties and societies.
Mrs Pat Wilson was then elected to be the new Chairman of the SLGA.
Carol Fell asked the board in the "any competent business" section, if County Medals were the same as Open Days for the new Congu regulation. The answer was given as yes and she said that this was impossible to administer unless you used the Home Clubs handicap computer where the competition was being played at and not use the county laptop. The SLGA said they would look into the matter and Carol has sent a report to the SLGA as requested by the new Chairman Pat Wilson. This report includes an explanation of the problem and a couple of suggestions on how to solve the problem
