SUN SHINES AT RANFURLY CASTLE AND CAROL TESTS OUT A NEW MAT.

Good turn out at the Wednesday bounce game today -- Carol, Helen and Linda were the winners and Carol was very impressed with her new Rocket Launcher Smart Mat as was Linda who tried it as well.
PLEASE NOTE THAT LINDA DID NOT CONTINUE HER STRIKE AT HELEN !!

This is the article from the Scottish Club golfer magazine that tells you all about it.

WITH bad weather affecting summer as well as winter revenues, clubs need to be more innovative, so a new device seems a logical step in the right direction.
Damian Kilby, managing director of divotEND Scotland Ltd, describes his product as the‘first, true Performance Winter Rules Mat’. He’s not far wrong.
Simple yet highly engineered to give the sensation of taking a divot. It even fits in your pocket. divotEND’s Rocket Launcher was voted No.1 Best Product at this year’s Scottish Golf Show and may be the only device of its kind approved by the R&A for competition when local rules are mandated. A brief scan of customers’ comments at www.divotend.com certainly gives the golfer in each of us great confidence - but what does it mean for Clubs and Pros?
SAVING
“Well, for one,” says Kilby, “they’ll not be spending thousands on large teeing ground mats which damage the
underlying grass and there’ll be no need to buy hundreds of giveaway mats either. Golfers can use it off the teeing ground all year round so there’s literally hundreds of greenkeeping hours saved at each club. Greenkeepers will see improved fairways in winter as even the better golfers prefer to use our mat and won’t simply discard it when not under supervision.”

IMPACT
So how does it work? “Well, on the fairway when you’re using irons it gets the ball much lower, the ball actually touches the grass. On impact it works in concert with the natural grass cushioning underneath. It permits golfers to maintain their normal downward divot-taking arc but with no resultant divot.”

It certainly seems like this device is the ‘must have’ golf gadget of the coming winter.
Indeed, Kilby states that the Rocket Launcher often flips over when struck, “so sponsors see it as a prime mechanism for promoting their message”. That could be a tidy earner, too. No wonder their catch cry is:“divotEND pays dividends, to clubs, golfers and our planet”. For enquiries, please email info@divotend.com

IONA WINS OR HER DEBUT FOR THE COUNTY TEAM

Iona with caddy Anne -- courtesy of Jean Irvine
Many congratulations go to Iona Stephen who replaced Renfrewshire's Eilidh Briggs who was unable to play in the County Team Championship finals at Montrose Links over the weekend.

Iona played on Day 1 - In the foursomes with Alyson McKechin (RLCGA Champion) against Angus -- but the Angus Pairing could do no wrong -- so it was a tough introduction to County matches as they were well beaten.

Iona did not play on Day 2 against Midlothians -- However Success on Day 3 against Dumfries - shire when Iona was selected to play in both the foursomes and singles ties and was victorious in both.

Anne Judge travelled up to Montrose and caddied for Iona -- (pictured above)

Jean Irvine and Alison Robertson travelled up to Montrose to support the team. Jean took lots of photos at the request of your webmaster Carol Fell who was unable to attend and many thanks go to her for managing to take and transmit many photos back to me.

Renfrewshire who were the West of Scotland County Team winners finished in 3rd place in the Scottish Finals -- 1st Angus, 2nd Midlothian, 3rd Renfrewshire and 4th Dumfries-shire -- For the Last days play -- Go to the Renfrewshire County Website

GREENLEES TEAM OUTING TO DUNDONALD

Some of the Greenlees Team Players that were at Dundonald Links

The end of season Greenlees Team outing took place yesterday at Dundonald Links in glorious sunshine.
After the awful weather on Thursday we all thought the course would be rather wet. However, it was dry and with greens lightening fast, and difficult borrows all the players struggled to score well.
The team of Lesley Robertson, Carol Fell and Fiona Roger were the best of a bad bunch !! A lovely meal was then had at Northern Gailes and there was much chat and hilarity.
Although the Greenlees Matches have still to be completed in Division 1 Ranfurly Castle has finished in 3rd place -- The team are disappointed due to the fact that an end of season depleted Kilmacolm team has allowed Milngavie and Cathkin Braes to overtake us at the top of the leader board.
We had beaten Milngavie and Cathkin Braes in our matches.
The final match in the Division is the rearranged tie between Kilmacolm and Milngavie and Milngavie need 5.5 points from the match to win the division for the 3rd year in a row.
Click on the Greenlees Link on the LHS of this webpage for all the results -- A full update will be given when all the matches are completed

Greenlees Team hang on to their dream of winning the Trophy for a 2nd time

The Greenlees team played Whitecraigs at home a week ago on Friday in the most awful weather with swirling winds and lashing rain. All home advantage was lost due to the weather but the team manage to draw 4.5 - 4.5.
However a strong team was out in force yesterday and we were  delighted that our best player Lesley Robertson, who due to work commitments is usually unable to play, was able to lead the team to victory against Milngavie, the current Greenlees Champions for the last 2 years.

Lesley beat the Dunbarton and Argyll Champion Nichola Ferguson to set up a great start for the team. All the matches went right down the wire but luckily in our favour -- WE WON 8 -1 !!

Our last match is against Largs AWAY -- A very difficult encounter with about 3 of their team being Ayrshire County players and many of our team have not played the course.

We will try our best and perhaps who knows what may happen !!

CDH (Central Database Of Handicaps)

You may have noticed since we started using the above that some of your away scores have been duplicated. In one instance there was even a duplicated score from an unknown club. When it has been brought to my attention, I have deleted the duplications but, for some unknown reason, some are reappearing on the Handicap Records.
To keep you in the picture, I have spoken to CDH technical department and have been advised they are aware of and are in the process of dealing with this problem. In the meantime , however, could I ask everyone to be vigilant and make a point of checking your Handicap Records on a regular basis. Remember, we are all responsible for our own handicap record.
To access your record on line, log onto RCGC website, click on EVENT ENTRY & RESULTS, HANDICAPS, MY HANDICAP LIST. Alternatively, I will be happy to print you an updated copy on request.

Ladies July Medal

As a result of the torrential rain last night, in which two ladies were caught, the above competition has been abandoned due to unplayable conditions.
After checking with Tom if we could replay the medal next Wednesday, I was advised that summer maintenance on the green would have started and there was a chance we may be on temporary greens.
Every effort will be made to find another date and we will advise you in due couse.
Thanks, Sheila

Greenlees Team lose Away to Troon

The Greenlees team played Troon Ladies on Monday - at Troon. On arrival they were shocked to see that 6 out of the 9 of the opposing team were "very young "!
Natasha Qayum led the Ranfurly Castle team out and put up a great fight against Scottish Under 18 Internationalist Connie Jaffrey and only just lost, and those who did lose were all just pipped at either the 17th or 18th green. Anne Robinson had a very good half against another very well known Scottish youngster Katie McGarvie, Anne Judge won on the 18th against the "oldest" Troon team member -- well known West of Scotland and Renfrewshire player Heather Anderson and finally Nancy MacGadie had a very good win as well. The team lost 6-3 but perhaps better than they thought after looking at the draw sheet before play!

IONA AND DENISE PUT UP A FIGHT IN THE RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Iona's Putt lips out at the 18th
Ten times Renfrewshire County Champion Donna Jackson (Cochrane Castle) had a marathon match this morning against Ranfurly Castle's Iona Stephen in the first round of this years County Championship at Erskine Golf Club.
Iona was 2 up at the14th then she lost a ball at 15th and also lost the 16th to be all square at the 18th. She then had a birdie putt on the 18th to win the match but the ball lipped out.
A variety of pars birdies & bogeys followed with Donna winning with a birdie at the 7th extra hole !
The match lasted for 4 and half hours. What a tussle Iona.
Denise Cowan also put up a great fight against 4 times Champion Megan Briggs and was only 2 over par when she lost 2&1.
Carol Fell did her best and with a poorer putting day that let her down she lost 5&4 to Nicky Henderson from Haggs Castle.

Nine Hole Competitions Clarified

The above can be played by members to retain their competition handicaps. Stableford format only for our two nine hole competitions. This will count as two of the three cards required. You can also submit extra day score(s) which can be Stableford or Stroke Play, please refer to the Extra Day Score Book in the locker room for full details of proceedures. However, if you decide to use this method to submit a card, it must be played over 18 holes to be an acceptable score for Supplementary Score purposes.
Please note, when using the conversion table on the wall in the locker room to obtain your nine hole handicap, you must use your exact, not your playing handicap. e.g. 16.6 not 17.
The nine hole competitions and extra day scores can also be used for obtaining a new competition handicap and for regaining an out of date one. In this instance, there is a minimum submission of 54 holes in total.
