MCLACHLAN CUP - POSTPONED

Sadly, because of the terrible weather and torrential overnight rain, we have decided to postpone today's McLachlan Cup.

The new date is Wednesday 25 September, in place of the scheduled Stableford competition.

CLUB FINALS DAY 2019

On Saturday 24th August the Club Championship Finals were played in beautiful sunny conditions which was a huge relief to all concerned!  In the week leading up to this, several semi finals were still to be played, due to the poor weather.  It was by no means certain that all games could be completed in time and 2 couples were out on the course until 9pm on Friday night to ensure that the Worpleston Trophy final could take place.

The Ladies Championship final was between Jan Macnab and Denise Cowan.  22 club members followed the game, supporting both parties, but after a very close fought match, Denise was the winner on the 17th green.  The two caddies - Anne Robinson and Maureen Cook - did a wonderful job keeping the ladies calm and ensuring a good match.

The Worplesdon final was between Marion and Stuart Munro and Marissa Barr and Stephen Thomson with Marissa and Stephen taking the Trophy.

The Trophies were presented by Captain David Stewart.

LADIES INVITATION DAY 2019

The Ladies Invitation Day was played, at the second time of asking, on Friday 23rd August.

Unfortunately some of the ladies who planned to bring a guest and play on the original date were unable to make it, but those who came along all enjoyed the greensomes format and a dry, if windy, day.

The winners were Sheila Biggart and her guest Nicky Stirrup from Kilmacolm with 36 points.

Runners-up were Anne Judge and Margaret Gray from Old Ranfurly with 35 points.

Nearest the pin at 7th - Eileen Walker
Nearest the pin at 14th - Sheila Biggart
Longest drive silver - Carol Smith
Longest drive bronze - Joy McLeod

Many thanks to Vicky Rennie and Nancy MacGadie for all their hard work arranging (and rearranging) the day, to Maureen Cook and Joy McLeod for donating some of the prizes and to Jean Irvine for ensuring the clubhouse looked beautiful with various flower arrangements throughout.

LADIES OUTING 2019

Thanks to Marion Munro for organising the successful annual Ladies Outing to Hilton Park on Wednesday 21st August. 24 ladies enjoyed hot rolls before play, 18 holes (in most cases) and a two course meal when we came in. There was enough dry weather for everyone to enjoy at least some of their golf, although by the end it was a bit miserable particularly for the later starters.

The Allander Course provided lovely views, was not too long (although quite hilly in places!) and had the advantage of coming back to the clubhouse after 9 holes.

The winners were Jan Macnab, Rosemary Ogilvy and Cynthia Keanie with 52 pts,

Runners up Agnes Williamson, Joy McLeod and Pamela MacKenzie with 49 pts

and Jean Murray holed the longest putt on the 9th green - 141 inches!

Is Anne off for a paddle to find her ball?

HALDEN CUP SUNDAY 18TH AUGUST 2019

This Sunday's Halden Cup match - the annual match where the Lady Captain's team plays the Gents Captain's team - was another victim of this extremely wet August.

There was a delayed start and some matches played over a reduced number of holes but we were able to go ahead, after Captain David was to be seen out squeegeeing the 18th green personally!
All the matches were played in a great spirit and everyone seemed to enjoy the less formal buffet-style lunch judging by all the noisy chat filling the dining room.
The overall match result was a Draw which seemed very fair in the conditions.

Thanks to all the ladies who played, from the rookies enjoying their first taste of this fierce competition to the stalwarts who turn out every year having had their arms twisted! I appreciated your support.

POOH PUTTER

Wednesday 14th August was the annual match between the Captain's team and the Vice Captain's team for the Pooh Putter. This year was slightly different and it was a Past Captain's team that took on the challenge.  Sadly the weather was rather wet, so the competition was reduced to 10 holes and the result was a resounding win for the Captain's team.
It was good to see so many ladies enjoying lunch and the chat afterwards.

CORONATION FOURSOMES AREA FINAL

Jan Macnab and Sheila Biggart represented Ranfurly Castle at the Coronation Foursomes area final at West Linton on Thursday 8th August.

The girls have not made it to the Grand Final at St Andrews this year but finished a very respectable 4th out of 66 competitor pairs, with 36 points. The top three couples all had 38 points.

REARRANGED LADIES INVITATION DAY

After the terrible weather last Friday led to the postponement of this event, the new date for the Ladies Invitation Greensomes is Friday 23rd August.

A revised entry sheet will be put up in the Locker Room. Most players have been contacted and retain their original start times. Unfortunately the changed date means some ladies are now not able to play and their entry money will be refunded in due course.

There are spaces available if you were not able to play on Friday 9th but would like to get a partner and play on 23rd. Please just add your name to the sheet or contact Jan Macnab or Nancy MacGadie.

GREENLEES MATCH AT MILNGAVIE

The final away match of the season was played at Milngavie on Monday 5th August. Despite having to sit in the car for 10 minutes when we arrived because of the torrential downpour, amazingly the rain then stayed away for the duration of the match. Current league leaders Milngavie won 7-2, a not unexpected result, but with some close matches. Two halves and another win for Mary C at the end of the team. Well done!
