SPRING MEETING FOR CAPTAINS PRIZES
Many thanks to all the ladies who played today in the Spring Meeting, and also to others, unable to play, who joined for lunch.
I enjoyed greeting you all before play and chatting to so many of you in the clubhouse afterwards. A very pleasant day!
The weather didn't look too promising early on, but gradually improved throughout the morning. The chilly strong wind persisted, but at least it was dry! Some great scores were returned.
Silver Winner: Sheila Biggart 38 pts (bih)
Silver Runnerup: Marion Munro 38 pts
Bronze Winner: Gillian Donaghy 37 pts

RED CROSS RINGER
This is just a reminder that you can enter the Red Cross Ringer by filling in an 18 hole score from a counting competition and putting £2.00 in an envelope in the tin box. Followwing that, you can change your score at an individual hole any time you play either 9 or 18 holes. It seems, that due to us using the Golf app to enter scores, many of you have forgotten that the ringer is in the locker room to fill in. Can I also remind you that both the Birdie Tree and Par Tee are in the locker room and you can add your score to them after any counting competition. The instructons for the handicap range for the Par Tee are on the wall beside it.

WEST RENFREWSHIRE LEAGUE14TH JUNE
The team played a match against Kilmacolm, at home, on the evening of Tuesday 14th June. It was a dry evening with little or no wind so perfect condidtions. Despite Kilmacolm having a very strong team, Ranfurly managed a win 4 matches to 2. Well done to all who played but a special mention for Pauline MacEwan who has played in in all 3 matches and has won all her games.

CLUB CAPTAINS DAY 11th JUNE
It was a truly horrible day of weather for Club Captains Day on Saturday 11th June. Wet and windy with frequent heavy squally showers - I think the only weather missing on the day was snow!
Such a shame for the Captain, Stevie Scott, as around half of those signed up to play withdrew due to the weather.
The weather didn't deter some of our intrepid ladies, with the ladies winner scoring a fantastic 36 points in the most awful of playing conditions.
Winner: Eunice Muir 36 pts
2nd Place: Eleanor Cannon 27 pts
3rd Place: Pauline MacEwen 26 pts
There was a well attended function in the evening with everyone enjoying lively entertainment from Platinum Duo
GREENLEES RESULT 13th JUNE - KILMARNOCK BARASSIE (AWAY)
Our Greenlees ladies played away today down the coast at Kilmarnock Barassie.
It was another cool, dull day like the many others we've had so far this June!
Despite the best efforts of our ladies, unfortunately the result was not in our favour, with a strong Barassie team winning 7 games to 2.
Best of luck to the team for their next match away to Milngavie on 27th June.

PAST LADIES CAPTAINS DAY
On Friday 10th June 24 past Captains played a 12 hole stableford team competition.. The conditions were extremely challenging with gale force winds - the tail end of Storm Alex - buffeting with gusts of 45mph. At least it wasn't raining as well!! Everyone was grateful they were only playing 12 holes and not 18. The golf was followed by a very noisy lunch with lots of chat. We were delighted to welcome back 3 past members - Vicky Sandeman, Evy MacGregor and Fiona Roger - and they were very impressed with the condition of the course. The winning team were Eileen Walker, Evy MacGregor and Helen Abram with a score of 30 points, and runners up were Anne Judge, Sally Smyth, Pat Pennel and Alison Robertson with 27 points.

WINTER GREENSOMES RESULTS
Thank you for everyone's patience yesterday when we tried to run our Greensomes competition on VMS.
Unfortunately there was a problem with VMS calculating all the handicap allowances correctly. It worked for the majority but 4 were wrong. This is obviously more worrying than if they had all been wrong as there seems to be no obvious reason for it and I have been unable to get it to correct the calculations despite a long time trying.
The corrected final results are below. The VMS App still does not show the correct points for all, but the winners positions are not affected.
1) Vivien Howe & Gillian Donaghy (23) 43pts
2) Marion Munro & Sheila Swinnerton (21) 41pts
3) Mary Craig & Helen Abram (19) 38pts
4) Nancy MacGadie & Pamela MacKenzie (18) 37pts
5) Denise Cowan & Louise Cooper (11) 37pts
6) Karen Binning & Karin MacKenzie (22) 36 pts
7) Jan Macnab & Sheila Biggart (11) 35pts
8) Alison Templeton & Morag Cunningham (31) 31pts
9) Maureen Cook & Chris Minto (24) 31pts
10) Rosemary Reedie & Evelyn McDermid (27) 31pts
11) Rosemary Ogilvie & Vicky Rennie (27) 30pts
12) Anne Judge & Pat Pennel (18) 30pts

Morag Cunningham was joined on the 1st tee by Club Captain Steven Scott and Junior Captain Ramsay McLeod. It was dry with very little wind and the 3 drove up the fairway watched by a fair few friends, despite the early start. The drive in was followed by the teams playing for the Captain's Quaich.

GOLF FORMATS FOR FUN BOUNCE GAMES
Hello Ladies
Denise Cowan has kindly forwarded information on some fun formats for golf games.
Hope you have fun trying them next time you play!
Morag Cunningham
WENTWORTH
This is match play competition with a team of one player taking on a team of the other two. To make it fair, the singleton team changes ever six holes. The team with two in it, their better ball counts as their score. A point is given to each golfer on the winning side on a hole, and whoever has the most points after 18 holes is the winner.
BARRACUDA
Another match play version, but in this one everyone plays on their own. Six points are awarded for each hole. If there is an outright winner and an outright second place then it is 4pts to the winner and 2pts to the second place. If two people tie for first it is 3pts each to them. If two people tie for second they get a point. If everyone ties the hole they get 2pts each.
THREESOMES
One player plays his ball throughout, and takes on the other two who are a team playing greensomes.
ON THE PERCH
This takes the idea from squash where only the person who is serving can score a point. On the Perch, also known sometimes as In The Chair or Chairman, is a format whereby only the person On The Perch can score a point.
The game starts with the perch being empty. The first player to win a hole outright then goes on the perch. If that person then wins the next hole outright, they score a point; if someone else wins that hole outright then they go on the perch. If the player on the perch halves the hole, he or she remains on the perch. If the other two players halve the hole the player is knocked off the perch and the perch becomes empty.
SKINS
This format can be played by three balls or four balls. Each hole is worth a skin – the term coming from the idea that there is a bag of money in a leather bag as the prize. The players decide in advance what each hole is worth in terms of a skin – sometimes all 18 have the same value, sometimes the later holes are worth more. If a player wins the hole outright he wins the skin. If no-one wins, then that skin is added to the skin for the next hole, and whoever win that hole then wins two skins. If there is no outright winner on that hole, the next becomes worth three skins and so on.
CAPTAINS DRIVE IN - SUNDAY 9th JANUARY 2022
Hello Ladies
The drive-in of the new captains will take place at 10.30am on Sunday 9th January.
Hopefully, the weather will be benign so that some of you may be inclined to come to the 1st tee to cheer off the 2022 captains.
There is an associated mixed competition for the Captains Quaich. Winner will be presented with the quaich by Stevie Scott, the 2022 Club Captain.
The format will be mixed individual stableford. Entries can be made now on the SG app. Tee times have been reserved from 10.30-11.30am. A random draw will be done - games can include a mix of gents, ladies and juniors.
Due to the current Covid situation, there is no associated catering for those playing.
For those who wish it, coffee/lunch will be available as usual in the clubhouse.
Please support this event if you can.
Thanks! Happy New Year and Happy Golfing in 2022 to you all.
