JANUARY WEDNESDAY BOUNCE GAMES

Rosemary Ogilvie has kindly agreed to take over from Pamela to organise Wednesday bounce games for the remainder of the winter.

The draw would be done indicating the person who would book; hopefully mainly in threes.  When the draw is done if you are not available you would let the person booking know.

The dates for January are 12th,19th and 26th.

If wishing to play on any of the above dates, please email rosieogi45@gmail.com .  Last date for entry into January draw is 4th January.
An email will come out with all the groups.

Lets hope that the weather remains kind for golf in January.

Christmas Cracker Results

Wednesday turned out to be a lovely morning for golf despite the doom and gloom of the forecast.

24 ladies played the 9 holes in various forms of Xmas dress, some more outrageous than others, but everyone enjoyed the golf.  A total of 38 enjoyed the Xmas lunch in the Castle Room which looked really festive thanks to Leanna's hard work.

The winning team with 24 points were Anne Robinson, Mary Hardie and Fiona Aitken and the runners up with 23 points were Sheila Biggart, Helen Abram and Alison Templeton.  The winner of the best outfit went to Margaret Parrott.

Thank you to everyone who played Spot the Ball - won by Fiona Aitken - which resulted in £53.00 being sent to the Red Cross.  An extra thank you to Fiona for donating her winnings back to the Charity.

PASSING OF ANNE NICOLL

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Anne Nicoll died last night.  I'm sure we all remember her for her positive attitude and kindness, and our thoughts are with her family.

SPOT THE GOLF BALL COMPETITION

There will be an opportunity for you to win £25 at the Christmas lunch on Wednesday!

British Red Cross are raising funds and we have the chance to help.  Just write your name in a box, on a grid, to guess where the golf ball could be.   Each guess will cost  £1.00 so be sure to have some actual cash with you when you come for Lunch.  For someone to win £25.00, Red Cross will also get £25.00 so your £1.00 goes a long way.

Looking forward to seeing you at the club.

LADIES DINNER

The first Ladies Dinner since 2019 was held on Wednesday 27th October in the newly refurbished clubhouse.  It was a very wet evening but that didn't stop 44 ladies from coming out to enjoy the evening.  Sadly one lady failed to make it due to the dreadful flooding around Paisley and with so many roads closed as a result.

The catering team did a wonderful job coping with all the orders, both food and bar, to ensure that everyone was safe and remained seated at their table.  It certainly was a noisy affair and, after such a long time without socialising, it was lovely to be back to some form of normality.

Captain Gillian welcomed everyone at the start of the evening and then presented the Fun Competition prizes at the end.  Anne Judge informed us that the Greenlees Team had won Division 2 comprehensively and will be playing back in Division 1 next season.  She also thanked Nancy MacGadie for her dedication to the team over 7 decades and wished her a happy 'retirement'. She will be sadly missed.

The final event of the year will be the Festive Tri-am on Wed 8th December.  Entries can now be made via the Scottish golf app and the draw will be made as usual before the event.  Information regarding lunch afterwards will follow.

Here are a few photos of the evening!

AUTUMN MEETING FOR MITCHELL TROPHY

Played Wednesday 8 September 2021.

11 ladies played in weather that was unexpectedly boiling for the time of year!

1st Silver: Marion Munro 89 (12) 77 (bih)

2nd Silver: Jan Macnab 86 (9) 77

1st Bronze: Mary Hardie 101 (25) 76

2nd Bronze: Gillian Donaghy 104 (25) 79 (bih)

TROPHY WINNER: Mary Hardie

The scoring was relatively high for such a calm day, but there was a highlight when Denise Cowan had a HOLE-IN-ONE at the 14th.

Reported as a 7 iron shot that was played through the bunker gap for a kick in towards the pin on the right, both Marion and Denise were not sure the ball was in the hole until they looked closely! Well done Denise 😀

FRIENDLY v ELDERSLIE SUNDAY 5th SEPTEMBER

This last friendly fixture of 2021 was hosted at home on a beautiful warm day with the course in excellent condition.

The Elderslie ladies enjoyed the match and our hospitality afterwards.

The match result was a very equitable half.

Many thanks to our team of Lindsay Wright, Pauline MacEwen, Fiona Christie, Morag Cunningham and Evelyn McDermid who represented the club magnificently.

Very many thanks to Jan Macnab for organising and for playing on the day with the Elderslie organiser.

If any lady wishes to take part in a friendly match in 2022 (usually 3-4 matches over the season) please let me know (cunninghammorag58@gmail.com). You can participate in as many or as few matches as you like. They are actually fun fixtures and good for match play practise in a relaxed atmosphere.

SUCCESS FOR HOME PLAYERS AT COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

The Renfrewshire Ladies County Championship was played at Ranfurly Castle this week. Thanks to Craig and the greens staff for presenting the course in such a beautiful condition to show off to our visitors.

The Championship title was ultimately won by Jennifer Rankine of Haggs Castle (handicap +1) in a close match on Friday afternoon against Julie Wilson of Williamwood. Earlier, there had been a very good showing from our ladies.

Congratulations to Jan Macnab who won the Peggy Clark Cup for the best net score (73) in Wednesday's (very windy) qualifying round, just pipping Allison Murray with the better inward half.

Then, on Friday morning, Morag Cunningham won the handicap knockout final, beating Vicky Rennie at the 18th, to win the Irvine Trophy (presented 5 years ago by our own Jean Irvine).

Well done also to Denise Cowan who reached the semi-finals of the Championship itself and to Jan and Marion who both won their first match and were knocked out in the quarter-finals.

HOLE IN ONE!

Much excitement today at the 7th hole when Vivien said (very casually) after hitting a nice 7 wood shot onto the green “I think that’s a Hole-In-One”. She had heard it dropping although the rest of us had not even been watching that closely 😲

Sure enough, the ball was in the hole.

Well done Vivien and congratulations on your 1st Hole-In-One !

COMPETITION ENTRIES

Questions have been raised recently about whether it is permissible to change your competition tee-off time.

As ballots are now drawn and times allocated 9 days in advance, players’ circumstances can change in the following days and it is therefore permissible to change your competition tee-off time however you wish up to and including the day before the competition. (Please as a courtesy advise your playing partners if you are withdrawing or changing your tee time).

The Ladies Committee has also decided that in the unusual circumstance of no-one being available to mark a player’s card for a competition, then the player can change their original tee time on the day of the competition to allow another player to mark their card.

Also note that there is no lower limit to the number of ladies entering a competition for it to go ahead. A competition will only be cancelled if bad weather leads to the course being unplayable or if there are zero entries.

WEST RENFREWSHIRE LEAGUE MATCH

Our West Ren Team played a match at Ralston GC last night.  It turned out to be a much better evening that at first thought, so no rain and reasonably warm.  That's the good news, sadly, the team was well beaten losing 5 1/2 to 1/2 match.   Thank you to all the ladies who played very well over quite a tricky course.
