Curtis Cup Poster Arrives at Ranfurly Castle

Nairn Golf Club
The countdown has started with a vengeance towards the June 8-10 staging of the 37th Curtis Cup encounter at The Nairn Golf Club, – a biennial, eight-a-side three-day match between the best female amateur golfers in Great Britain & Ireland and their counterparts from the United States. GB & I  last won the trophy at Killarney, Ireland in 1996 but last summer’s Astor Trophy success at Fairhaven GC, Lancashire, where skipper Tegwen Matthews’ team of five beat New Zealand, Canada, Australia and South Africa to win the once-every-four-years tournament, has raised hopes that the tide may turn in this year’s Curtis Cup match at Nairn

Vivien Howe is the new Lady Captain

Past , Present and Future -- Karin, Vivien and Sheila
Outgoing Lady Captain Karin Mackenzie welcomed the ladies to the 82nd AGM.
She read out the match report, and this was then followed by the reports from the Handicap Secretary Sheila Biggart, Greenlees Secrertary Anne Judge and Junior Convenor/Vice-Captain Vivien Howe. Karin then gave her full Year Report.
Sheila Biggart was appointed as the new Vice Captain and Vivien Howe was appointed the new Captain.
Although the Committee were not open to discussion on the proposed changes to Membership both Susan Reid and Carol Fell raised some issues about these changes which will affect the Associate Members Group.
After the business was completed the silverware was presented.
Denise Cowan our Lady Club Champion then gave the vote of thanks. The meeting was closed by our new Lady Captain Vivien Howe
Tea was served in the mixed lounge.

Associate Members

The Ladies Committee are very aware that the changes to the Associate memberships have created many questions amongst the members.

I have tried tirelessly to to ask a representative from the Board to have a meeting with all members. This will probably not happen.

I would recommend that any ladies with queries to contact Mr King, the Club Secretary at secranfur@aol.com or Mr Jim Park , the Club Captain at jpark@fesfm.co.uk

I have listed below some of the most frequently asked questions from the Ladies. Hopefully the answers given will help you to understand the implications of the changes.

1. Only Full members are allowed to play in ANY competition. Only Full members are allowed to play in team competitions and mixed competitions.

2. All competitions are run by the the club. SLGA fees are nothing to do with competitions but are to help with playing rights. Everybody has to pay at every club that they are a member of.

3. Social/ Restricted Lady Associates will be allowed to attend the Ladies AGM.

4. Social/Restricted Associates members will have full access to the course on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays & Fridays.

5. The Social/Restricted Associate Lady will be able to participate in our 2 Monday Charity competitions.

6. There will be at least 3 Thursday Strokeplay competitions for all Social/Restricted Associates to play in. This will provide an opportunity to maintain handicaps.

7. An EGM is not required to amend the changes to any membership category. The Board is allowed to make changes to these at any time.

8. An EGM would need to be called to change the Annual Subscription of Associate members. The percentage has been set out in the Articles of Association. At present this is 70% of the full annual subscription.
Again I hope these answers are of some help.

Ranfurly Castle win the West Renfrewshire League

Sue Lyon receives the Division 1 Winners Trophy
The West Renfrewshire League AGM was held at Ranfurly Castle Golf Club this evening Wednesday 9 November at 7.30pm.
18 ladies attended with tea being provided at the beginning of the evening. The business was completed promptly which included an agreement to allow the use of Sky Caddies in matches. This allowed the representatives a chance to mix and also to put some provisional dates in the 2012.

Final Results:
Division 1: Ranfurly Castle and Gleddoch were level on points and games won. Ranfurly Castle were confirmed as the winners after a count back of "holes up".
Division 2: Winners: Renfrew, Runners up: Caldwell.
Division 3: Kilmacolm and Gourock were joint leaders with Kilmacolm the winners as they had won the most games.

Renfrewshire Ladies County and West Vets AGM'S

Some of the prizewinners at the RLCGA AGM - Click to enlarge

Renfrewshire Ladies County Golf Association held their Annual General Meeting and Prizegiving last Wednesday - 2nd November at Haggs Castle Golf Club.
Denise Cowan, Maureen Cook, Carol Fell, Anne Judge, Mary Hardie, Jean Irvine, Jan Macnab, Marion Munro, Alexandra Qayum and Agnes Williamson all featured in the Prizewinners List.

We all know that GB&I men hold the Walker Cup, European Professionals hold both the Ryder Cup and Solheim Cup and all that remains is the Curtis Cup, the amateur ladies trophy. This match will be held in Scotland at Nairn 8-10 June 2012 and the SLGA are hoping that Scotland can be the scene of the clean sweep of all the Team Championships. At a meeting in Strathmore in September each Scottish County was asked to put forward an ‘Ambassador’.
Carol Fell was announced as being appointed as this County Ambassador post to liaise with the SLGA to help get support for the GB&I team.

To read the full AGM report, see photographs and the full prizewinners list --- GO TO THE RLCGA WEBSITE   --   then click on Home and the bottom of that post to get all there posts

The following day - Thursday 3rd November the West Vets AGM was held at Cowglen Golf Club. West Vets Captain Fiona Roger chaired the meeting and gave an excellent report on a very successful 2011 season.
The prize giving took place at the end of the meeting and Mary Irvine received the Bronze Championship runners up prize. To read the full report go to the West Vets Website
