SGU and SLGA NEWS RELEASE
The proposal to amalgamate the Scottish Golf Union (SGU) and the Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (SLGA) into a single unified governing body for amateur golf in Scotland has been finalised, one that can herald an exciting “new era” for Scottish Golf.
Outlining their clear vision for the game in the proposal, the Chairs of the SGU and SLGA, Tom Craig and Beth Paterson, stress that amalgamation is fundamentally important for the future of golf in Scotland.
To meet the many challenges currently facing the game, the proposal outlines how amalgamation can provide a platform for a new governing body to lead Scottish golf positively into the future, help Clubs be viable and vibrant and attract more people of all ages and gender into the sport.
With the Boards of the SGU and the SLGA both in agreement regarding the proposal, it has now been distributed to the memberships of each organisation – namely the SGU’s 16 area associations, the SLGA’s 15 county golf associations, ladies' golf clubs and ladies' sections of clubs and all affiliated clubs in Scotland for them to consider as approval is sought over the coming months.
KEY FEATURES
Key features of the proposal include clubs becoming full voting members for the first time, with areas and counties to have a substantial collective vote, equivalent in aggregate to approximately one third of the overall vote.
The roles of the areas and counties are to remain unchanged, meaning they don’t have to merge. National and regional forums are also to be established to help communication to and from grass roots golfers and clubs.
The amalgamation proposal and supporting documents can be accessed both on the SGU website at http://www.scottishgolf.org/who-we-are/sguslga-amalgamation/ and on the SLGA website at http://slga.co.uk/amalgamation/
Expressing the importance of amalgamation, the Chairs said in a joint-statement: “This is the most significant issue in Scottish Golf and the amalgamation proposal is the best and only option to amalgamate. We encourage all areas, counties and clubs to support it.
PLATFORM FOR NEW ERA
“Amalgamation can provide a platform for a new governing body to lead Scottish Golf boldly into a new era. We want our clubs to be healthy and vibrant, to be welcoming places for men, women, boys and girls to enjoy our wonderful game, and to help attract more people to participate in golf throughout Scotland.
"Amalgamation is absolutely in the best interests of all stakeholders in Scottish Golf and sends the right message about the inclusivity of the sport we all love.”
Back in March of this year, a joint working group, comprising five representatives from each of the SGU and the SLGA, independently chaired by Sheriff Alastair Thornton, circulated an amalgamation consultation proposal to all areas, counties and golf clubs in Scotland.
Following a wide ranging consultation process up to the end of July during which every golf club, area and county, as well as all golfers and other interested parties had the opportunity to input, the joint working group analysed and considered the feedback before publishing its final proposal.

LADIES CHRISTMAS LUNCH AND QUIZ
The Fairy Captain hosted a fun and sometimes hilarious quiz which took place on Wednesday 10th instead of our 9 hole Christmas stableford. Eleven teams more or less answered the questions - more or less.
The winners, after a tense three way tie breaker, were Mary Irving, Anne Robinson and Chris Minto with an outstanding score of 15.
Morven Mcleod's name was pulled out of the hat as the winner of the best Festive outfit - well done Morven!.
Pamela Mackenzie won the lucky chair prize.
37 ladies attended the Christmas Lunch of sandwiches and very good lentil soup followed by a mince pie.
Many thanks to Joy who supplied some of her excellent tablet to have with coffee.
Everyone seems to have enjoyed lunch and the quiz.
Sample question - What is Buzz Aldrin's mother's maiden name?
Answer team x - Gladys
You know who you are!

DENISE RETAINS THE COUNTY RENFREWSHIRE COUNTY ROSEBOWL
Denise and Maureen before tee off Denise is presented with trophy from Vice Captain Gillian Kyle. |
Denise got off to a great start winning the first 5 holes with steady golf.
Maureen was struggling a bit playing off the wet ground and did not really make use of the 10 shots she was receiving. She looked like turning the match around when she halved the 6th and won the 7th, but a birdie from Denise at the 9th stopped the comeback.
More good play saw Maureen win the 11th and 12th but it was a little too late. Denise steadied herself again and retained the Rosebowl on the 14th.
Many Congratulations DENISE !

LADIES 125th ANNIVERSARY COMPETITION
Lilias with overall winner Anne |
Jan, Lilias and Joy |
42 ladies enjoyed a great fun competition in excellent weather.
The tees at 125yds from the greens were more than just a bit interesting, on slopes, under trees, on hillocks, on the occasional path which some of us didn't know existed but certainly not in the middle of the fairway as we'd all expected or hoped for!
This competition was not about prizes unless 125 pink bonbons or 125 orange tees was a golfing dream but was about the participation of the ladies as a club.
Our outright winner was Anne Judge - congratulations. Many thanks to Joy Mcleod who made a beautiful chocolate cup cake for each lady to have with coffee.
There was a rendition of Happy Birthday to Ranfurly Castle Golf Club, the less said about that the better.
Thanks to Jean for her photography -- CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE
Perhaps we could make this an annual event.
A wonderful job by Lilias and Jan.

LADIES DAY JUNE 2014
A wonderful time was had by all on Ladies day this year. Clouds turned to blue sky and sunshine and the reinstatement of the drinks gazebo at the 11th made for a superb and fun day.
Not only were the flowers at the front entrance coming into their own courtesy of Marion Munro but the beautiful display on the ground floor was once again thanks to Margaret Neil.
The magnificent arrangement on the table at the half landing and the window displays were the work of Joy McLeod.
Many thanks to you all, it is very much appreciated.

PAST LADY CAPTAIN'S TROPHY FRIDAY 13TH JUNE
Ladies, I had originally planned to play 13 holes(green course), 1-6 and 12 in, however the weather forecast looks awful .
The lunch is booked 1 for 1.30pm but Ishbel has agreed to bring the lunch forward to 1pm.
I think at best the competition may be 9 holes.
I will contact team captain's early, particularly those coming from Glasgow when I get a better idea of the weather outlook.
I will keep everyone posted either on the blog or email.

There will be a separate column in the Competition book for the Green Course.
Please ensure that if you choose to play the Green Course that you tick the appropriate column and take the correct card before start of play.
Those who opt for the Green course, playing for handicap only, should NOT enter their scores on the computer but should put their cards in the box.
As you know this is the first year with our new tees (Green Course) and it may take a little time for the system to settle down.
Feedback would be appreciated when ladies have had a chance to play from the new tees.
Thank you
The following competitions are to be played exclusively on the GREEN course:
1. All 9 hole competitions
2. Charity Tri- Am - Friday 20th June
3. Charity Yellow Ball Stableford -Friday 19th September
GREEN OR RED COURSE
Competitions where players will be able to choose to play either the GREEN Course OR the RED Course are:
1. Stableford and Gran's Trophy - Wednesday 11th June
2. Vets and Gillies Trophy - Wednesday 18th June
For these MERGED competitions the computer system has been set up to allow us to merge scores giving an overall winner.
Hopefully this will encourage more ladies to join in these competitions.
RED COURSE ONLY
All other competitions, except those stated above, will be played on the RED Course.
However, there may be some ladies who would prefer to play the Green Course for those competitions - they can do so but will be playing for HANDICAP ONLY and will NOT be part of
the competition ie. they cannot win the competition.
There will be a separate column in the Competition book for the Green Course.
