Many congratulations to Louise Cooper who is our latest Ladies Champion.
The ladies championship final was contested by Louise Cooper & Anne Judge - Louise being a first time finalist at RCGC. Finals Day was blessed with good weather - dry, warm and very little breeze.
Anne made the best start and found herself 3up after 5 holes. The highlight was a chip in from Anne from well off the green at the 4th. Anne maintained this lead and was 3up after the front nine. After Louise holed a monster putt at the 10th the momentum was then with Louise who fought back to level the match at the 12th. Both ladies kept the watching gallery in suspense as first Anne won a hole then Louise won a hole - match all square at the 14th. 15th was halved. Anne won 16. Louise won 17. The match is now once again all square! Either lady could win!
Louise had a chance to close out the match on the18th with a short putt. But no! The putt missed. We proceed to the 1st tee to start extra holes. The watching gallery was on tenterhooks! Both ladies played the first extra hole well - Louise having a notable second shot to the edge of the green. Louise holed out to win the match at the first extra hole.
Many commiserations to Anne Judge. The match was very close, but there can only be one winner.
It was a memorable match much appreciated by the large gallery.
I felt privileged as referee to be witnessing such a fine display of golf from these two fabulous ladies.
