Well done to everyone for braving the wind and rain yesterday and playing in the 9 hole Fun Competition. Perhaps it wasn't quite as much fun as it would have been if the weather hadn't let us down a bit! The Xmas Golf ball proved a bit of a challenge - not for everyone though, once they lost it, all part of the fun of the day. It was fantastic to have so many people playing and then even more joining in at lunch time, all dressed for the occasion - 47 is amazing.
The winning team with a score of 41points over 9 holes consisted of Lilias Snodgrass, Anne Nicoll and Gillian Donaghy and the runners up were Karen Binning, Dorothy Simpson and Jennifer Cairns with 38 points. Congratulations to all. The prize for the best Xmas outfit went to Helen Crichton who came as a wrapped Xmas present complete with gift label!

LADIES ANNUAL DINNER 2016
43 Ladies attended the Annual Dinner at the club last night and, judging by the noise during the evening, a good time was had by all! The room looked very nice with red napkins on the tables along with attractive little flower posies and the presentation and flavour of the dinner was first class.
The medal prizes were presented at the end of the evening along with prizes for the Fun Competitions held during the season.
A special presentation was made to Carol Fell recognising her hole in one at the 5th hole. This is Carol's 7th hole in one - a bit greedy some might say - but very well done.
On checking the following photos, I notice that Lilias decided the wine was too good to leave any behind!!

COMMITTEE GOLF OUTING
On 27th September the Ladies Committee visited Alloa Golf Club for their outing. The weather was dry, sunny and VERY windy but everyone enjoyed the challenge. The course had coped pretty well with the torrential rain which had fallen over the previous 24 hours and the views were spectacular. Avery warm welcome was received from the Pro and the Catering staff so we were well looked after.

Greenlees team lose to a very strong Milngavie Team and finish Runners Up in the Division
Carol has hole in one at the 5th in Greenlees Match |
Milngavie put out all the stops with 8 of their 9 strong team being single figured handicappers.
Milngavie won 6.5 - 2.5 to take the title with 50.5 points
After a lot of calculations Ranfurly Castle just made it to be runners up against Kilmarnock Barassie who finished with the same number of points (44) but had one less away win than us.
Relief was felt amongst the team as they had all done their part throughout the season.
Many thanks go to Sarah Eckford (team Captain) for her fantastic organisation of all the matches this year.
The Lunch and award of trophies takes place at Cathkin Braes Golf Club on Tuesday 18th October

The cancelled September Medal has now been re scheduled for Wednesday 21st September.
Once again, this will be run on the same day as the 9 Hole competition, as happened in April.
The 9 Hole will now start at 11am from the 4th Tee and slot in behind the medal. There is no need to change your entry on the notice board unless you decide to play in the Medal but remember the time change. We just need to hope that the weather is kind to us.

AUGUST MEDAL
On the advice of James I have, sadly, taken the decision to cancel the Medal today. Course is VERY wet and with more rain forecast by 10am he felt it would not be a good idea. I will look at the diary and reschedule as soon as possible. Keep your eye on the blog for an update and I will also post it in the Locker room.
Thank you to all you have donated to Alice's leaving gift. The box will be removed at the weekend so if you would like to donate and are unable to get to the club, just let me know and I will put it in for you. Thanks, Joy.

COMPETITIONS PLAYED FROM GREEN TEES.
CONGU issued several changes to the Unified Handicapping System in the 2016-2018 Manual.
In light of these, the Committee has decided to introduce the use of Green Tees into more of the competitions. Starting with this Wednesday - 30th June - all Stableford competitions and all remaining Medals can be played from either the Red or the Green Tees.
This means that players will have a COMPETITION Hcap when both tees are used as opposed to their PLAYING Hcap.
The SSS for the Red course is 73 and for the Green course is 72 therefore in a Medal, those playing from the Red Tees will have a COMPETITION Hcap one higher than their PLAYING Hcap.
EG:- A PLAYING Hcap of 16 means a COMPETITION Hcap of 17.
In a Stableford competition this means that those playing from the Red Tees will be allowed one extra stroke. If the PLAYING Hcap is 16, the extra stroke should be taken at Stroke index 17 on the card.
The computer works this out when the scores are put in and the Handicap is adjusted as your PLAYING Hcap accordingly.
This will only be for non silverware competitions except The Vets, The Grans and The Gillies Trophies.
Please refer to pages 88 and 89 in the CONGU Manual for further information.
