Ladies Dinner Photos 2024

 What a wonderful evening everyone had on Wednesday.  Good company, food and very entertaining games resulted in a lot of laughter, and noise!  Captain Kate organised a raffle to raise funds for Dementia Charity and a huge number of exciting prizes were won.  This raised an excellent £420.00.  

LADIES ANNUAL DINNER 2024

Looking forward to seeing you at the dinner on Wednesday. Just to remind you that it will begin at 6.30pm with a ‘Fizz’ reception, with dinner commencing at 7pm. 

Throughout the evening there will be opportunities to win some super prizes, including a 4 ball worth £200 and an SK Fitness voucher worth £110, to raise money for my charity, Dementia Scotland. We will also present the prizes for the Australian Scramble.

For those who are interested, Pamela has kindly volunteered to set up games on a Wednesday morning over the winter. 

The format will be entering your chosen dates available for the month via email to Pamela, with a draw being done indicating the player who should book the time. When the draw has been done, you should contact the person booking if you become unavailable. Likewise, if you are available after the draw has been posted you can join any group with a space. 

The dates for November are 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th.

NEW FITNESS CLASS FOR GOLFERS - FLEX AND FLOW

Starting week commencing 21st October. Suzanne of SK Fitness is running 2 classes aimed at general flexibility and movement for golfers. Several of us participated in a similar class over the 24hr hour charity event and found it to be exactly what we were looking for!

Flex and Flow, is a combination of Pilates, toning, stretching and flexibility in one class and suitable for all age groups and fitness levels. No equipment is used apart from a mat; you use your own body weight and work at your own level. 

The class will last 50 minutes, and takes place in the Golf Club, Wednesday at 6pm and Saturday 8am. 

Cost £12.50 pay as you go, or £40 for 4 classes. See Suzanne to book, or use the Spond app.

MARILYN MIRNER DEATH

I have received notice that Marilyn Mirner, past member, sadly died on the 1st October. Due to ill health she had been living in Northlands Care Home, Blairgowrie. We send our condolences to her family.

 We were lucky again today as it was a beautiful day for our fun Australian Scramble. Thanks to Lilias and Pamela for organising  - great job ! As many of you realised this event usually has no entry fee. As the charity TriAm was cancelled due to bad weather, we have decided that rather than return £5 to everyone, the money will be donated to the Captains Charity.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

Many congratulations to Jan Macnab who is our 2024 Champion. 

A good crowd of members followed an excellent match between defending champion Allison Murray and Jan Macnab at the delayed final on Sunday September 15th. 

Allison had the better start going 1 up at the 2nd, but Jan came back strongly to level the match at the 3rd. The match remained level until the 8th with Jan 2 up at the turn. Holes 10, and 11 were halved before Jan made it 3 up winning the 12th. A win for Jan at the 14th, and a half at 15 determined the result. Very well done to both ladies, commiserations to Allison, and many thanks to the two caddies Sheila and Lesley for supporting them calmly throughout.

Pooh Putter Winner

The annual competition between the Captain's team and the Vice Captain's team, for the honour of holding the Pooh Putter, took place today.  Amazingly the course was open and we managed 18 holes, despite the amount of rain that has been falling.

There were 78 ladies entered this year in our Ladies Open Tri-am. Unfortunately, although the course was looking fabulous (and there were many compliments) the weather was awful! Only 13 teams completed the 18 holes and all deserved prizes for doing so! 

Very many thanks to Marion who organised the event. Thanks also to starters, Pamela MacKenzie, and Anne Judge and ‘Check in girls’ Gillian, Vivien and Louise. Thank you to our spot prize sponsers and to Mark, Tim and our Captain Earle who were very supportive all day. Leanna and team provided some lovely specials for lunch.

 On Friday 12th July, 20 Past Captains got together for 12 hole Tri-am competition and a friendly lunch afterwards.  It was lovely to see Evy MacGregor joining uss and also Sally Smyth.  the runners up were Mary Craig, Evy MacGregor and Lilias Snodgrass while the winning team consisted oof Gillian Donaghy, Pamela MacKenziie and Joy Mcleod.  Well done to all.                                          Just for interest, Evy was in the winning team in 2022 and runners up team in 2018, 2023 and 2024 while Mary was in the winning team in 2016 and runners up team in 2023 and 2024.

Greenkeepers Day 

This year Greenkeepers Day will be on Saturday the 13th July. It has been set-up as a Mixed Fun Team event (ideally a team of 4) with 2 scores (Stableford) from the Team players to count on each hole. i.e. best 2 points score on each hole (net). The course will be set-up with novel pin positions and unusual tee options in this non-qualifying for handicap event. A portion of entry fees (£5 per player) will go to supporting the greenkeepers Christmas party with a donation bucket also available in the shop. Support your excellent Greenkeepers by entering a Team. 

Ranfurly Scramble 

This mixed event takes place on the 20th July and will be a shotgun start at 9am. Players are asked to sign up in advance (details emailed) with teams drawn and tees allocated on the day when players arrive. This is a great opportunity to meet other members you might not normally get a chance to play alongside.

When you have completed your round and submitted your score, please always check the leaderboard (either on your phone or ask in the Proshop) to make sure your score is showing. ANNUAL GOLF OUTING

The annual outing has been arranged for Tuesday 27th August at Rowallan Castle Golf Club.  The cost will be £64.95 and this includes a roll and tea or coffee on arrival and a 2 course meal after golf.  There is now a sign up sheet on the notice board in the locker room.  Please sign before 22nd July if you wish to attend.  It is hoped that there will be a good uptake and that we have a really fun day out!  If you are unable to get to the Club to sign, contact either Kate or Pauline and they will add your name.

WEST RENFREWSHIRE LEAGUE V GOUROCK

The West Ren team had a disappointing night at Gourock yesterday, Tuesday 18 June.

On the plus side, it was a lovely warm evening and the company was good. On the negative side however, it was a VERY slow round, with several Gents' ties just ahead of the team match, and we found the course very tricky. The final result was 5-1 to Gourock.

We will hope to meet them at home next time and have a better result.

Still all to play for this season however with 2 games remaining.

INTER COUNTY FOURSOMES

 The Inter County Foursome Finals were played on Monday 10th June at Balmore Golf Club.  Our own Jan Macnab, with her partner Janette McCartney of Eskine, was the winner of the Handicap  category with a net 71.  Congratulations Jan - winning is becoming a very good habit!

CALCULATION OF FOURSOMES HANDICAP

 Ladies, there has been a little confusion on the correct way to calculate foursomes handicaps. The  following rules should be followed.

Work out the course handicap for each player (available from the board), add them together , divide by 2 & round. Do the same for the opposition and establish the difference.

The Annual Ranfurly Castle Golf Club Past Lady Captains Golf and Lunch will take place on Friday 12th July.  

A sign up sheet for this event, open to all past lady captains, is now up on the locker room noticeboard. We will play a 12 hole stableford competition from the green tees in teams of three before lunch. A draw for teams will be posted nearer the date. 

The lunch choices are listed below. Could you please indicate on the sheet whether you wish to play golf, and also your lunch choices. The price for lunch is £15 (includes tea/coffee but no gratuity) payable direct to Leanna by 5th July please.

The 2024 Greenlees campaign kicked off today at Hilton Park Golf Club, over the Allander Course.

I am delighted to report that, not only did we all get round dry, but also the team managed an excellent 6-3 win.

COACHING PROGRAMME

 Friday 25th May saw the first of a series of lessons for beginners with Professional Ethan Law.

8 ladies gathered at the short practice ground, where Ethan introduced them to methods of gripping the club, taking a stance to chip the ball and then swinging and hitting chips into baskets, at various distances.  The response was very positive from everyone and we are sure they will all return next Friday for the next instalment!

FRIENDLY V KILMACOLM HOME

Our team enjoyed a very friendly 'draw' v the Kilmacolm ladies today at the Castle. The weather was kind, and the 2 - 2 result followed by a very sociable lunch was most enjoyable. So much so, that we might be looking to add some more friendly matches to the schedule in the future! (There's still time to sign up for the Gourock away game). Many thanks to Morven for her efficient organisation.

WEST RENFREWSHIRE LEAGUE

Last night was the start of our 2024 West Renfrewshire League campaign.

The team of Jan, Eleanor, Eunice, Kate, Karin M and Alison T, managed to scrape a home win 3.5 games to 2.5 against Ralston, I am relieved to report. (The League is tight enough that if you don't win your home matches, you are practically guaranteed relegation for the following season).

The matches with Ralston are always very friendly affairs, played in good spirit and it was a lovely night for golf - which was just as well as the matches finished and everyone had to congregate at the picnic tables, the Clubhouse already being closed.

RLCGA COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Many congratulations to Jan who had the lowest net score of 68 in Wednesday's qualifying round at Cathcart Castle. There were 53 Ladies playing in the County Championship Qualifier and Jan has now won the Peggy Clark Cup.

In Friday's Championship final, the 12 year old golfing sensation Sabrina Wong from Cathkin Braes beat Jennifer Rankine in an amazing match in which the girls made 9 birdies between them, in the pouring rain. Incredible golf.

Meanwhile back at the Peggy Clark Cup, a fascinating review of past winners reveals not only Jan but Denise Cowan, Lesley Robertson (in both 2022 and 1995!) and ex-Ranfurly Castle and now Sky Sports celebrity, Iona Stephen, who won it 10 years ago this month.

CAPTAINS' DRIVE-IN

Our two Captains eventually 'Drove In' this morning in glorious sunshine.  The crowd of supporters could have been bigger but that did not deter from the occasion.  Kate and Earl went off to enjoy 18holes along with others, playing in both the stableford competition and the Welcome Quaich.

RLCGA COUNTY FOURSOMES

Congratulations to Joy and Vicky who won the Renfrewshire County Foursomes yesterday at Paisley Golf Club.

27 pairs took part - coming from all over Renfrewshire - on a lovely day, on a course that was in very good condition considering the recent wet weather. Paisley is however never an easy course and Joy and Vicky must have played very well for their winning score of net 75. 

They now qualify for the Inter-County Foursomes final and the Commonwealth Spoons competition in September, if they are available to play in these.

APRIL MEDAL - WEDNESDAY 3RD APRIL

Unfortunately, our April Medal will not count for handicap purposes. The course will not be ready for medal play , until next Saturday 6th April. As this is now the second year in a row, that the course has not been ready for the first ladies medal of the year, next year we will move it back a week in the fixture list.

There will be no entry fee on Wednesday - please use to practice creating your card and entering your score.

QUARRIERS PRESENTATION

 Karen was delighted to be able to present Louise Strachan of Quarriers with a cheque for £835.00.

This was raised by the Ladies Section during 2023 but the total raised will be more, as a result of people using the QR code to pay for the pleasure of landing in the Captains bunker!  Well done and thank you to everyone for supporting Karen in her efforts.

WEST REN MATCH - CHANGE OF DATE

 The dates and venues for this seasons West Ren Matches are listed in the Calendar.  There has been a clash of dates with the Ladies Open Day so the Home match against Renfrew has been moved from Thursday 18th July to Thursday 25th July.

PAMELA WILSON - FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS

  Ladies , Pamela's funeral service will take place on Thursday 18th January at 10.45 in St. Machar's    Ranfurly Church followed by cremation at Woodside Crematorium at 12 noon.

I am saddened to inform you of the death of Pamela Wilson. Pamela passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning. Pamela had not played golf in a while but was still a social member of the club. We send our heartfelt condolences to Pamela's family and friends.

94th AGM
